A great rivet, since it's made with a flatback instead of a chaton, it lays much flatter against your garment.  This expands the types of material it can be used effectively with.  Great for leather and clothing alike as it will not catch on as many things, and on the material, it lays basically flat instead of standing up too tall like the chaton rivets. The post is a spike, so no longer a need to pre-punch in most cases.  Also, the back is closed off on the underside, leaving less room for problems later down the road, like catching on horse or dog hair....
